“Adam Driver Takes the Wheel in Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” – Watch the Trailer!
Prepare to be amazed by Adam Driver’s transformative performance in the captivating trailer for Michael Mann’s upcoming drama, “Ferrari.” In this film, Driver steps into the shoes of Enzo Ferrari, the iconic Italian sports car entrepreneur. Alongside him, Penelope Cruz shines as Laura Ferrari, Enzo’s wife, and Shailene Woodley intrigues as Lina Lardi, his mistress. The eagerly anticipated “Ferrari” is set to make its debut at the Venice Film Festival this year, with Neon handling distribution in the United States.
Joining the impressive cast are Patrick Dempsey, who portrays fellow racecar driver Piero Taruffi, and Jack O’Connell, playing racer Peter Collins. Sarah Gadon graces the screen as Linda Christian, while Gabriel Leone takes on the role of driver Alfonso de Portago.
Set in 1957, “Ferrari” delves into the events leading up to the infamous Mille Miglia race. This historical race takes a tragic turn when de Portago’s Ferrari racecar suffers a tire blowout, resulting in a devastating crash that claims the lives of him and nine spectators. Both Ferrari and the tire manufacturer face charges of manslaughter, although the case is eventually dismissed.
The majority of the film’s scenes were captured in Brescia, Italy, the very location of the real Mille Miglia race.
As the entertainment industry grapples with the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, Mann proudly presents his film as an independent work, free from major studio associations. In an insightful cover story with Variety, the director emphasizes that the film’s origins and its unique screenplay don’t conform to the mold of traditional studio productions. It’s fitting that this independent gem finds its home with Neon, a distributor renowned for its independent spirit.
“Ferrari” is adapted from the 1991 biography “Enzo Ferrari — The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine” by Brock Yates, with the screenplay crafted by Mann and the late Troy Kennedy-Martin.”
