India’s lunar rover descended a ramp onto the moon’s surface and commenced its exploration.

Within hours of India’s spacecraft making a historic touch-down near the moon’s south pole, a lunar rover gracefully slid down a ramp from the lander, announced Indian space officials on Thursday. The nation celebrated this remarkable scientific achievement.

The Indian Space Research Organization stated that “India took a walk on the moon,” as they unveiled the Chandrayan-3 Rover’s mission to conduct experiments over a 14-day period. Among these experiments is an analysis of the mineral composition of the lunar surface.

On Wednesday, citizens of the world’s most populous country gathered around televisions in various settings, including offices, shops, and restaurants. They erupted in joy, applauding, dancing, and sharing sweets as they witnessed the flawless landing of the lander. The spacecraft touched down on uncharted terrain believed to house valuable reserves of frozen water.

Headlines in Indian newspapers highlighted the achievement, with The Times of India proclaiming, “India Goes Where No Nation’s Gone Before,” and the Indian Express boldly stating, “The Moon is Indian.”
